What is Cyclocross?
Cyclo-cross is a time honored tradition of winter bicycle racing in Europe, which is now becoming very popular in the states. It's a combination of road racing and mountain biking on a short course. Race courses are typically 1 to 2.5 miles in length and last from 30 minutes to 1 hour. The most interesting aspect of cyclocross is, racers at various points on the course have to dismount and run while carrying their machines over man-made or natural barriers (18 inches height). Because the courses are small and racers having to run with their bikes, cyclocross lends itself to being a terrific spectator sport. Competitors love it too because of how close the crowds are to all the action and the excellent workout you get from it.
